For those of us who draw a lot, the iPhone offers new temptations. Apps are available that let you draw with your finger so you always have a little sketch pad available. I draw people as they pass by and I like to catch them unaware. Drawing on an iPhone is so new that it never occurs to my subjects that I am nabbing a quick portrait rather than playing a game on the phone.

The iPhone places quite severe limits on drawing as the drawing space is very small and it's quite hard to be both fast and accurate. Such limits, however, can often promote better and simpler drawing. I've been using my finger so far but there are styli available that are more accurate. For the moment, I like the spontaneity of drawing with a finger. I don't aim for a close likeness; rather I use someone's face or posture as a jumping off point for a free drawing. I use an app called "AutoDesk Sketchbook" as it allows layers and has many useful features. Most of my drawings are monochrome because I work very fast.
